On October 22, the Army granted an appeal filed by Kamaljeet Kalsi, a Sikh doctor who had taken part in the Army's Health Professions Scholarship program. Kalsi -- along with a Sikh dentist -- were told after completing the program they would have to remove their turbans and cut their unshorn hair and beards in order to go on active duty. Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness (CMR), says the Army is setting itself up for a problem. "[I]t is suggesting that an individual's right is greater than the needs of the military," she says. "That is indeed a very slippery slope."

Our troops, in addition to fighting the Taliban every day and helping the Afghan people, are doing everything they can to keep their spirits up. They don’t want to just give up, they don’t want to fail their mission, and they want to know that their sacrifices and the friends they had that gave their lives did so for a noble cause, for victory.
http://archive.moveamericaforward.org/index.php/MAF/Messages/
Despite the fact that President Obama continues to go back and forth on the question of more troops to Afghanistan, while our troops are suffering without the manpower they need to overwhelm the Taliban, there is still some good news. With your help, after four short weeks, MAF has raised over 90% of the funds needed to send care packages to the unit.

ECONOMY:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I put this in economy though this is mainly an energy article because it affects both and my Economy category was empty!!“But my favorite is the protestors that drove a convoy of pickup trucks into the heart of Shell Oil’s massive open pit mine, halting production. They came from Edmonton to Fort McMurray, Alberta, a 360-mile round trip. The irony of burning all that gasoline to shut down a facility that helps to provide affordable gasoline was apparently lost on them. Greenpeace says that it is putting a spotlight on the “climate crimes of the tar sands.””

EDUCATION:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The Obama administration is trying to strong-arm America’s colleges and universities into complying with a bill that hasn’t been signed into law yet. The bill, which would replace current subsidized-student-loan programs with a government-run system, passed the House last month, but its fate in the Senate is far from clear. Sen. Tom Harkin, chairman of the Education Committee, plans to use the budget-reconciliation process to pass the contentious bill with a simple majority, but The Hill newspaper reports that it might not even have 51 votes. The bill is far from a fait accompli, making the administration’s pressure campaign all the more egregious.

"It is the duty of parents to maintain their children decently, and according to their circumstances; to protect them according to the dictates of prudence; and to educate them according to the suggestions of a judicious and zealous regard for their usefulness, their respectability and happiness." --James Wilson, Lectures on Law, 1791

ENERGY ISSUES:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
OU geologist and associate professor of arts and sciences David Deming says, “there’s plenty of oil out there”. North America contains huge unconventional petroleum resources in the form of tar sands and oil shale. The western U.S. alone is capable of producing at least 2 trillion barrels of petroleum from oil shale. At a current U.S. annual consumption rate of 7 billion barrels, that represents a 286-year supply of oil, none of which would be imported. The value of this resource is $120 trillion, 10 times the size of the national debt.

Sen. James Inhofe tells Newsmax that the cap-and-trade bill that Democrats support would amount to "the largest tax increase in the history of America" and won't accomplish anything.
The Oklahoma Republican also he would be "shocked" if the bill has enough votes to pass the Senate.

China and India cancel out on the Copenhagen Conference on Global Warming…SHOCK! Interestingly, if these two HUGE contributors to greenhouse gasses aren’t going to show, why in the HECK are we? The two mega-nations — which together account for nearly a third of the world's population — said they won't go along with a new climate treaty being drafted in Copenhagen to replace the Kyoto Protocol that expires in 2012. They're basically saying no to anything that forces them to impose mandatory limits on their output of greenhouse gas emissions. Other developing nations, including Mexico, Brazil and South Africa, will likely reject any proposals as well.

Ann McElhinney's low-budget documentary refuting the global warming hype and hysteria arrives in Washington just in time to break Al Gore's crystal ball. "Not Evil Just Wrong," the feature-length film she made with her husband Phelim McAleer, coolly reveals how Al's disguise of hot fanaticism as cold fact arrives as the Senate begins to gear up for debate on "climate change" legislation.

In the health care debate, Democrats and their allies have gone after insurance companies as rapacious profiteers making "immoral" and "obscene" returns while "the bodies pile up." Ledgers tell a different reality. Health insurance profit margins typically run about 6 percent, give or take a point or two. That's anemic compared with other forms of insurance and a broad array of industries, even some beleaguered ones, says the Associated Press (AP).

A very interesting article on mass transit and why, when the government operates it, it just doesn’t seem to work – fee increases due to poor management scare off riders that can’t afford it anymore and the companies just walk around with their hands out for more money instead of fixing the problems, “The antidote to monopoly is competition, and transit costs cannot be controlled without it. There is a successful model. Transit agencies can competitively bid and competitively contract bus routes for limited periods of time, requiring firms to supply services they specify. The public agency continues to draw the routes, establish the timetables and set the fares. In a number of cases, competitive contracting has lowered costs and reduced the rate of cost increase.”

FREEDOM/TAXATION
---------------------------------------------------------------------
An old saying goes that the time to live in New York is when you're young and poor, or old and rich—otherwise, you're better off somewhere else. That wisdom is getting an update this week from a study by the Empire Center for New York State Policy that shows middle-class people leaving the state in droves. Between 2000 and 2008, the Empire State had a net domestic outflow of more than 1.5 million, the biggest exodus of any state, with most hailing from New York City.

U.S. Sen. GUN CONTROL
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A new Gallup poll shows that the number of Americans who favor tougher gun control laws has dropped to its lowest point in nearly 20 years.
Gallup asked the question, "In general, do you feel that the laws covering the sale of firearms should be made more strict, less strict, or kept as they are now? Forty-four percent said more strict, 12 percent said less strict, and 43 percent said the laws should be kept as they are now -- making for a 55-44 majority opposed to tougher laws.

HEALTH CARE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
"We are witnessing a disturbing trend of handouts to special interests like AARP," said House Republican spokesman Matt Lloyd, referring to Democratic negotiations over health reform. "In return, AARP is lobbying for a government-run health-care bill that will pad their own executives' pockets at the expense of its own members and other vulnerable seniors." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/26/AR200910...
Senator Lieberman says he will NOT run with the Dems on the Health Care issue and will in fact side with the GOP should a filibuster need to occur over the Health Care nonsense bill. “We’re trying to do too much at once,” Lieberman told Politico. “To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now.” http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/lieberman_filibuster_reid/2009/10/27/...
The healthcare fatal conceit. By Star Parker. A really great article explaining how Socialism is the ‘fatal conceit’ but because we Americans have become so conceited we don’t really notice it anymore! Although the socialist label is being thrown around a lot now, we must recognize this isn't new. This conceit has been inflating in American hearts and minds for years, with the inexorable growth of government and the ongoing change in American attitudes about what government is about.

Americans for Prosperity is asking you to make a "Congressional House Call" at noon on November 5 to tell your Senator or Congressman to vote NO on the Obama/Pelosi/Reid health care takeover.
http://americansforprosperity.org/102209-make-house-call-november-5th
The Republican Conference has compiled a list of page numbers and provisions in the 1,990-page “Affordable Health Care for America Act:” [PDF]
• Page 94—Section 202(c) prohibits the sale of private individual health insurance policies, beginning in 2013, forcing individuals to purchase coverage through the federal government
• Page 110—Section 222(e) requires the use of federal dollars to fund abortions through the government-run health plan—and, if the Hyde Amendment were ever not renewed, would require the plan to fund elective abortions
• Page 111—Section 223 establishes a new board of federal bureaucrats (the “Health Benefits Advisory Committee”) to dictate the health plans that all individuals must purchase—and would likely require all Americans to subsidize and purchase plans that cover any abortion
• Page 211—Section 321 establishes a new government-run health plan that, according to non-partisan actuaries at the Lewin Group, [PDF] would cause as many as 114 million Americans to lose their existing coverage
• Page 225—Section 330 permits—but does not require—Members of Congress to enroll in government-run health care
• Page 255—Section 345 includes language requiring verification of income for individuals wishing to receive federal health care subsidies under the bill—while the bill includes a requirement for applicants to verify their citizenship, it does not include a similar requirement to verify applicants’ identity, thus encouraging identity fraud for undocumented immigrants and others wishing to receive taxpayer-subsidized health benefits
• Page 297—Section 501 imposes a 2.5 percent tax on all individuals who do not purchase “bureaucrat-approved” health insurance—the tax would apply on individuals with incomes under $250,000, thus breaking a central promise of then-Senator Obama’s presidential campaign
• Page 313—Section 512 imposes an 8 percent “tax on jobs” for firms that cannot afford to purchase “bureaucrat-approved” health coverage; according to an analysis [PDF] by Harvard Professor Kate Baicker, such a tax would place millions “at substantial risk of unemployment”— with minority workers losing their jobs at twice the rate of their white counterparts
• Page 336—Section 551 imposes additional job-killing taxes, in the form of a half-trillion dollar “surcharge,” more than half of which will hit small businesses; according to a model developed by President Obama’s senior economic advisor, such taxes could cost up to 5.5 million jobs
• Page 520—Section 1161 cuts more than $150 billion from Medicare Advantage plans, potentially jeopardizing millions of seniors’ existing coverage
• Page 733—Section 1401 establishes a new Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research; the bill includes no provisions preventing the government-run health plan from using such research to deny access to life-saving treatments on cost grounds, similar to Britain’s National Health Service, which denies patient treatments costing more than £35,000
• Page 1174—Section 1802(b) includes provisions entitled “TAXES ON CERTAIN INSURANCE POLICIES” to fund comparative effectiveness research, breaking Speaker Pelosi’s promise that “We will not be taxing [health] benefits in any bill that passes the House,” and the President’s promise not to raise taxes on families with incomes under $250,000

KNOW YOUR ENEMY: PROGRESSIVE LEFTIST WORKINGS
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I read this article and was, in a way, shocked to read what I had ‘felt’ in my heart was happening here in this country (spreading from Europe particularly). According to the study -- conducted at the University of Florida -- there is an emerging "religious left." University of Florida political science professor Kenneth Wald says the group "is likely to become more visible and influential" because of Democratic control of the White House and Congress.
http://www.onenewsnow.com/Politics/Default.aspx?id=742292
I began to look into this a bit more and here are some websites I found when I Googled “Religious Left”. Below is a website shop that includes paraphernalia with slogans such as, "When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist." - Dom Helder Camara. I would suggest that most of us reading this newsletter see this as the propaganda it is because the statement subconsciously causes the reader to negate PERSONAL giving by substituting the notion that only FORCED giving through the Federal Government is deemed appropriate. In other words, unless EVERYONE is FORCED to TITHE through taxes that redistribute wealth over this nation to those “in need”, there is NO giving appropriate.
IN MY OPINION: it is long past time to get involved in what our churches are teaching – if not directly from the pulpit – but in the causes it supports with your TITHE!

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/01/obama.evangelicals/index.html - Very interesting article about how politics and religion go hand and hand and about how Obama worked with the “Religious Left” to get out his message before the election.
http://www.onenewsnow.com/Perspectives/Default.aspx?id=742444 – Brand new article by Michelle Malkin on how the Religious Left is scheming with the FCC to shut up conservative religious speech: “The "interfaith coalition for media justice" is led by the United Church of Christ. Yes, that's the same church of Obama's race-baiting, Jew-bashing ex-pastor Jeremiah Wright. Other members include the Presbyterian News Service, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the National Council of Churches. These religious liberals have partnered with the National Hispanic Media Coalition, which filed a petition in January demanding that the FCC collect data, seek public comment, and "explore options" for combating "hate speech" from staunch critics of illegal immigration.”

The Obama administration on Thursday failed in its attempt to exclude Fox News from participating in an interview of an administration official, as Republicans on Capitol Hill stepped up their criticism of the hardball tactics employed by the White House. But the Washington bureau chiefs of the five TV networks consulted and decided that none of their reporters would interview Feinberg unless Fox News was included. The pool informed Treasury that Fox News, as a member of the network pool, could not be excluded from such interviews under the rules of the pool.

In an alleged attempt to protect free speech on the Internet and prevent Internet service providers (ISPs) from implementing a tier system for broadband use, the FCC has decided to craft rules and regulations to guide ISPs. Once the rules are crafted, they will be posted for public comment and a final decision will not be handed down until early next year.
ISPs such as AT&T are critical of the proposed rules, while the Internet giant Google is pushing for the regulations. That development is interesting since Brian Camenker of MassResistance claims that Google engaged in censorship of his website for posting material critical of homosexuality. However, he adds that there needs to be some sort of rule that protects political free speech.

MORALITY:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Obama administration is looking for a fight over the definition of marriage. That means asking more than 100 Democratic members of the House and Senate to repudiate their votes for the Defense of Marriage Act within 12 months of next year's midterm election. That's political poison for members in swing districts and purple or red states. On Friday, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. delivered a lecture at the University of Maine where he reiterated President Obama's intent to push for repeal of the law defining marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman for purposes of federal laws. In August, Justice Department spokesman Tracy Schmaler said much the same thing, arguing the "act is discriminatory and should be repealed."

"The foundation of national morality must be laid in private families. ... How is it possible that Children can have any just Sense of the sacred Obligations of Morality or Religion if, from their earliest Infancy, they learn their Mothers live in habitual Infidelity to their fathers, and their fathers in as constant Infidelity to their Mothers?" --John Adams, Diary, 1778
Short little ditty on how The Rutherford Institute is going to start educating schools on the Constitution! "[T]here are groups out there that for years have been peppering...and hammering the schools that there's is an absolute separation of church and state in America, and [that] you can't do Christmas in the schools, you can't pass out religious literature, you can't have Christian clubs," says the attorney, who points out that the latter argument violates the Equal Access Act and constitutes a violation of federal law.

POLITICS/ELECTIONS:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Mitt Romney "...doesn't plan to make any endorsement at all" regarding the contentious NY23 Congressional race. What does this say about Mitt? When balanced against Sarah Palin's political courage, it seems telling. Sarah is a political alpha, a leader for the future. Mitt, in spite of his genuine conservatism and mastery of issues, is almost certainly not.

Man am I mad at Newt! He is an intelligent man, so it makes me wonder how even he gets into bed with these crazy RINO’s like DeDe Scozzafava in New York. He says that she is “dramatically better than a Democrat”…HOW? Geez, at least a Dem will come right out and tell you that he/she is one! RINO’s are scary because they look like a shoe and act like a shoe, but once you put them in the closet, they become a T-SHIRT! YIKES!

Palin’s perspective on the same race! "The Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate who more than blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican in this race," Palin said in a post on her Facebook page Thursday night.

Here is one way that all this Scozzafava/Hoffman race makes a difference. Scozzafava is FOR Card Check! Hoffman is NOT. This is an important issue – ISSUES make the difference, not PARTY affiliation in today’s climate of informed and active grassroots voters!

Another election leaving the RINO’s behind! Check out what has happened to Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio in Florida… Political insiders said it wasn't logical to challenge an incumbent governor who had high approval ratings and could raise gobs of money. However, Rubio said it didn't make sense for the highest-profile Republican in Florida to embrace a Democratic president and a plan that would raise the federal deficit. Now Rubio is gaining momentum as he reminds Republican voters of Crist's hug. And the same political insiders who downplayed Rubio are starting to think the unthinkable: Crist's campaign might be threatened by another Republican.

Justice Department Says Blacks in N.C. Town Can’t Get Elected Without Democratic Party Label. The U.S. Department of Justice is refusing to allow the town of Kinston, N.C., to hold nonpartisan local elections on the grounds that African Americans cannot win election without being listed as Democrats on the ballot. “It’s outrageously offensive,” said the congressman, “and it should be offensive to, especially, African Americans to be pandered to in that way, and to have the Department of Justice tell them that they don’t have the ability to discern who to vote for by name, that they can only discern that if it’s party – and it presumes that all African Americans are Democrats.”

Surveillance Nation (from UK writer): News broke this week that the police have a series of databases recording the personal details of thousands of people who attend protests or rallies, which are searchable by a number of officers and come complete with color photographs assembled and printed onto “spotter cards” which are then distributed to enable agencies to monitor attendees at events. Cost of this part of the surveillance state alone? Over nine million pounds.

TEA PARTY MOVEMENT:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Who are the Tea Partiers? The Republican establishment disdains ideological conservatives. Even some in the conservative media argue that to win, Republicans have to shy away from ideological campaigns. But ideological campaigns are built on solid conservative ideas and principles. It is these campaigns, not those such as John McCain’s last year, that win over independent voters. Republicans need to think -- and act right now -- on the Tea Partyers’ distrust of government and analyze what else will animate independents. Whether you call them Tea Partyers or “Reagan Democrats” doesn’t matter. What matters are those “kitchen table” issues.
